Hood Cleaning
How Often Should a Commercial Kitchen Hood Be Cleaned?
· Luma Facility Solutions

Cooking volume, menu and equipment all change how quickly grease builds up. Here's how to think about a practical cleaning schedule.
There isn't a single answer that fits every kitchen. How often a hood needs attention depends largely on what's being cooked, how much, and for how many hours a day.
What affects buildup
- Cooking method — frying, grilling and wok cooking produce more grease-laden vapour
- Volume — the number of hours and covers each day
- Equipment layout and the size of the hood system
- How often filters are removed and cleaned between services
Watch for visible signs
Grease dripping from hood edges, filters that stay sticky after washing, or a film forming on surfaces near the line are signs that cleaning is overdue.
Build a schedule that fits your kitchen
The most practical approach is to assess the kitchen, clean it, and set a recurring interval based on what was found. Your insurer, landlord or local authority may also have requirements — check with them for any specific obligations that apply to your operation.
